In the same vein, this article aims to answer the following questions: Do you have to be vegan to be accepted at Les Verts? Do you have to have seen all the Coen Brothers' films to move into La Casa du Cinéma? Do I need to know the pastry cream recipe by heart to claim a spot at Les Chefs? Is it necessary to be a yoga enthusiast to live at La Casa Wellness?
The answer to all these questions is actually "no, not at all!" ...but let's start with a little reminder about the themes of the Casas.
If you're looking to live in a community and are interested in cooking, La Casa des Chefs in Rosny or Villejuif may seem like obvious choices. If you dream of having your own home gym, you can apply for one of our three Sportive Casas, located in Maisons-Alfort (two houses) and Le Perreux-sur-Marne. But if you work in Maisons-Alfort and want to try a co-living adventure and enjoy La Casa's services and events, there's absolutely nothing stopping you from requesting to move into this house despite the theme. As long as the themed service included in your rent doesn't bother you, you can try your luck in any Casa.
Today, there are five Casa themes: Green, Chefs, Athletes, Cinema, and Wellness. Each theme comes with a set of thematic services, but all Casas offer a set of common services. After nearly two years of phone interviews with candidates, and since the lockdown, via video conferencing, we realize that some candidates are hesitant to apply to a Casa because they fear they may not be interested enough in the theme. In truth, this fear is unfounded. Our Casas and services are primarily designed to welcome communities and see them thrive. The balance between private and communal spaces ensures harmonious co-living, as do the numerous services we provide for roommates. All of this is designed to address the drawbacks of traditional room-sharing. For example, there's no worry about cleaning as a company comes twice a week to clean common areas, no hassle in finding a new roommate since the staff suggests candidates when someone leaves... and the thematic services specific to each Casa are opportunities for our roommates to spend time together.
The single monthly bill combines your rent, utilities, and all these services, so you have nothing extra to pay each month beyond the price advertised on our website. The thematic services are there to provide a little extra to the community.
We've realized that since the opening of the first Casa two years ago, the statistics speak for themselves. 50% of the current roommates in our Casas originally applied for another one. Our cooptation system is based on the meeting between a candidate and their future community. During these meetings, the connection varies, and that's perfectly normal. A candidate not coopted into a Casa isn't a "bad" candidate, and the next opportunity will likely be the right one! At La Casa, we can then offer them a meeting with another community until the match ensures everyone a harmonious life in a Casa. We'll say it again: 50% of our current roommates were initially candidates in another Casa. They didn't move into the originally requested Casa, but they liked our concept of Coliving houses specially designed for communal living, and the next opportunity was the right one.
Moreover, like all human beings, our roommates are far from being monogamous in terms of activities and interests! For example, at La Casa des Chefs de Rosny, there are some crossfit fans, at La Casa Verte de Saint-Maur, some are very sporty while others love watching movies on their projector! Compost is installed in all the Casas, not just in La Casa Verte, and a roommate from La Casa Verte de Saint-Maur is currently transitioning to become a meditation teacher... Everyone at La Casa lives their life as they please, and generally, the InterCasas afterwork events bring everyone together... with or without a theme!
