When Housemates Invent the 'Task Wheel

Living in a community, with about a dozen people in a Coliving, promises great moments and the creation of true friendships. But to achieve this, organization is key !

Life in Coliving requires organization.

Before opening La Casa des Sportifs, we spent entire evenings envisioning what the shared living experience in La Casa would look like ! We aimed to identify potential issues in traditional shared housing and brainstorm solutions we could offer. Subsequently, we compiled the Coliving Guide: a foundation of advice and good practices easily implemented within a community to ensure harmony among roommates. During candidate meetings, we of course emphasize this Guide. When members sign the lease, they also commit to a pact with other roommates, agreeing on the core principles of the shared housing they're joining. This agreement serves as their foundation for starting life in the community. But all this happens before moving in! And after :) ? In practice, it's when roommates face reality that they themselves define the rules for community living. Thus, each Casa mirrors its inhabitants !

An example: the 'Task Wheel' of La Casa des Sportifs !

The housemates at La Casa des Sportifs took an initiative that we found to be really great and creative. The initial observation ? In shared housing, no one wants to end up being the only one taking out the trash or tidying up the dishes! The solution: implementing a "task wheel." Deep in thought about the list of tasks to include in "the wheel," created by Alix, one of the housemates, with the help of a 3D laser printer (at La Casa des Sportifs, things are done thoroughly!), the "task wheel" is the tool that allows everyone to take turns participating in the household chores of the shared housing. The 13 housemates are divided into 4 groups that will rotate each week between:

  • - Taking care of La Casa's green spaces: garden maintenance...

  • - Handling waste sorting and management

  • - Ensuring that the common areas are well-maintained

  • - Resting :)

Housemates thus have a week during which they are exempt from tasks, then take on various roles over the following three weeks. A nice and original way to involve everyone in managing the daily life of the shared housing !

Housemates' initiatives are a source of inspiration for the project.

In general, we pay close attention to ideas that come from the Casas. Indeed! Who better than a housemate to precisely state their needs and help us improve the concept. We encourage members of each community to share these great ideas with us and to help grow the Coliving project.
